Smetana's Creative Litomyšl: Through The Landscape Of My Heart

„When I was a little boy, I’d often see my father how he’d stand in front of one of the paintings, motionless, silent, as if in a world of his own, only with this peculiar, subtle other-worldly smile on his face,” the collector Miroslav Macek describes his experience that formed his relationship with fine. The exhibition Through the Landscape of my Heart (Krajinou mého srdce) is made up from the collection of the Macek family, which systematically focuses on the school of Julius Mařák, and it has never been presented publicly in its entirety before. The collector describes the Mařák school as follows: “The traditional theme of Mařák’s students: sun in a forest. The play of lights and shadows, many shades of green and brown and rays of the sun breaking through the foliage create an image from which you can feel the smoothness of the moss and hear rustling of the leaves and singing of the birds. Far from the madding crowd…”

The exhibition was opened by a vernissage in the castle brewery in Litomyšl on 14 June. It runs until 7 July and it’ll introduce a whole number of authors to the public, pieces by Josef Bárta, Václav Březina, Ota Bubeníček, Bohuslav Dvořák, Ferdinand Engelmüller, Roman Havelka, Josef Holub, Jan Hons, Alois Kalvoda, František Kaván, Karel Langer, Stanislav Lolek, Arno Novák, Jaroslav Panuška, Bedřich Plaške, Augustin Satra and Josef Ullmann are on display.
