Litomyšl 14/6/2012 - 8/7/2012
In its 54th year, the Smetana´s Litomyšl Festival espoused the declaration of Pernštejn´s Year, because Litomyšl Castle, an architectonical gem and the last great building of the powerful Pernštejn family, has hosted the festival for more than 60 years. At the opening concert of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Jakub Hrůša and with pianist Fazil Say, the audience was able to enjoy Tchaikovsky's piano concerto in B flat minor. The Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra played Musorgsky´s Pictures at an Exhibition, while the most celebrated symphonic work was the content of the closing concert, the climactic 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky, accompanied by real artillery fire. This year the endowment fund was a co-organizer of the festival for the second time.
